His Excellency

Gov. Yates.

Dear Sir:

I want to assist in putting down this wicked rebellion, in earnest. My sphere is preaching. I am not strong enough to stand the labor of a common soldier. But I want to do something. Can I have the privilege of officiating as chaplain in some of the Regiments now forming? Would prefer the one containing the troops from this County (Shelby). Mr. Chas. E. Woodward late P. M. can tell you all about me.

Yours Patriotically

Jasper L. Douthil.
