August 10 1862

To his Excellency Governor Richard Yates

Springfield Ill

Dear Sir!

Permit me to introduce to you Mr. George Eisemauer, justice of the peace of Mascoutah St Clair county, one of our best and most influential men of the county and unrelenting champion of republican principles. Your last proclamation, as everywhere in the country, so in our county, that has furnished so many companies, aroused the people to the most patriotic efforts. Recruiting goes on splendidly and amongst the young men raising

companies, Mr Nathan Land a native of St Clair county distinguished himself by his zeal and fervour and has now a full company at your disposal. Allow me to direct your attention to this young man and permit me to recommend him to your favour. I should have done it personally but I am confined by illness and shall have the honour to wait upon you in the course of this week.

I have the honor to sign with profound respect

Your obedient servant

Frederick Hecker
