His Exclency Gov of Ills

Sir I feel called upon at this

time to do something for my

country, but being crippled

both in hand and foot they

will not take me in to the

ranks, therefore I desire

a place where I can do

something for the benefit

of the soldiers, if it be

nothing but helping to

take care of the sick or

furnishing stationary to

the soldiers, so if you will

name a place that I can ocupy in any such way I

will gladly accept, although

I have a poor widowed

mother ( my father dying

when i was small: that I

must sustain as I am her

only child that is single.

I am willing to go any place

where your Exellency may

see fit to send me but if

I had a choice it would be

Annapolis as I have many

acquaintances and schoolmates

that I expect to go there.

My present business is that

of book agent which I will

gladly leave for a place in

the service of my country

Sir if you can give me

a place, please let me know

by addressing me at
