Law Office of James M. Warren,

Elizabethtown, Ill., 16th Augt. 1862

Hon. Richard Yates.

Gov Illinois.

Springfield.

Dear Sir,

My friend Lafayett Twitchell a resident of this county. Informs me that he is an applicant for the office of Quarter Master in Regt. to be organised in this Congressional district. I take pleasure in recommending him to your favorable consideration, as eminently qualified to fill the office. I have been well acquainted with Mr. Twitchell for many years. He was a devoted republican in Republican times, and is now a devoted Union man, and all right on the War question, If the circumstances are such that you can not give him the Offices refered to. He will, I have no doubt thankfully accept of such an appointment as you can bestow. He is a worthy man, and worthy of your confidence.

Your friend Truly

Jas M Warren
