Hon Hatch

Secy. Of State

Dear Sir

I have concluded to call the attention of the President once more to the subject of my promotion and in order to give my application all the effect possible I desire that the State Officers shall join in recommending me. I have been in command of a Brigade and Division alternately nearly all the time since I entered the service till now. I have been cordially recommended for promotion for good conduct by Maj General Hunter, and I cannot help feeling a degree of humiliation when I see so many officers inferior to me in rank and not my superior in qualifications, promoted.

I shall feel under many obligations if you will join with the other State officers in a letter to the President asking for my promotion.

I am Very Respectfully

Your Obt Sert

Tho. J. Turner
