Gvr. R Yates

Dr friend,

I thank you for your kind letter of recommendation to Genl. Halleck last fall but through the representation of R B Hatch I did not present it. he states it would be of no avail as the appointment for the Gun Boat survice had been made.

Can you, in your appointments, give me something in the shops of Quarter Master or Commissary, in some of the Redgiments now forming, without my going into the survice as a private.

I am Truly Your friend

Edwd Lusk
