James. Berdau Esq

Jacksonville. Ills

Dear. Sir.

I wish to obtain the position of Major in Colonel. John Warner's Regiment of Infantry now forming in Peoria.

Tazwell County has two companies in the Regiment. she has furnished twenty hundred men for the prosecution of the war, and has but one Regimental officer in the field.

Governor Yates has the power of granting appointments.

If I could hope to gain your influence in my favor - in the solicitation for the appointment - and prove successful, I should feel very grateful. And try and do honor to the cause - for which thousands of patriotic hearts are offering their lives and blood.

Yours Very Truly

A. B. Sawyer

My Father, Josiah. Sawyer sends you his regards.
