Dear Sir

I respectfully solicit from you as Governor of the State of Illinois, the appointment of Colonel of one of the new Regiments, now in process of formation in the State

Having been in active service during the past twelve months as Captain of Company "E" 10th Regt Ills. Vols. a Regiment known as one of the best Illinois has in the field & under the immediate supervision of Brig. Genl E. A. Paine to whose Division, we have been attached since the first of March last, I beg leave to refer to him in regard to capability and fitness for the position sought for.
