Dear Sir

Allow me the honor to introduce to your acquaintance Lt E. M. Beardsley now acting Adjutant for the 69th Regiment Ills Vol Mr Beardsley is a Gentleman possesed with a large amount of Military Knowledge and is competent to fill the Office of a colonel in my Regiment. He has had during his stay here the full charge of the 69th Regt in their General drill I consider him one of the best Officers now in Camp Douglas he visits your city for cirtain purposes wich he will explain any favor you will grant him will be Highly appreciated by your Servant

We the undersigned earnestly but respectively ask your Excellency to commision E M Beardsley a colonel in the Volunteer Service We are well acquainted with his Military qualifications and know him to be eminently well qualifide to fill the position in Evry particular.

We do not ask this as a mere compliment to his ability but because he deserves the appointment and We think the country could place a Regiment in no Better hands.

Permit me to command to your favorable notice Lt E. M. Beardsley Adjutant 69th Regt Ills Vols whose term of service will expire about the middle of September

Lt. Beardsley is a good Officer and has discharged his duties here with credit to himself and to my entire entire satisfaction. he is in my judgment well qualifide to fill any position that he will aspire to.

I would be glad to see Lt Beardsley A field officer new Regiment and will vouch for his comptancy for the Position.
