Quincy Ills August 29th 1862.
To His Excellency Gover Yates.
George A Hunt a very highly reputable Gentleman, a good man, a lawyer of good standing and one of the pleasantest men in the country, Full of practical hard horse sense, wants to be Major in the 119th Regt of Ills volunteers being organized here. He has had some military training and we feel certain that he would make a good major. There are few better men every way, once appointed and made acquainted with the men we feel sure they will all like him. This much we can say in truth and in all sincerity.
