U S General Hospital

Mount City Ills Sept 13/62

To His Excellency R. Yates

Governor of Ills.

Sir

Enclosed find two letters of recommendation, one from Colonel Dollins commanding 81st Ill Vol and one from the Surgeons attending this Hospital which you please consider in reference to granting me a Commission in some new Regiment or in my own if there be a vacancy in it.

In explanation I would state that these recommendations were designed for Col Casey of the 100th Reg but were made out after his Regiment was organized. My friend advise me to send them to you. If you will have the kindness to grant me a commission of Adjt, 1st or 2nd Lieutenant I would forever feel bound to serve you and our common country to the best of my humble ability.

Respectfully Your
