Lockport Ills Sept 18th/62
Wm Gooding Esq
Lockport Ills
Dear Sir
On yesterday the 90th Regiment Ills Volunteers held an election for Regimental Officers
Col O'Meara was the choice, not one vote being cast against him. Col O'Meara is a gentleman from New York, sent out by Genl Corcoran as a proper man to take the Command of the "Irish Legion"
I have seen the reccommendations that Genl Corcoran gave Col O'Meara and they are of the right kind - Very strong indeed. From what I know of the man personaly, I think the right man is in the right place
Major Steward is a good man and deserving the office to which he just been elected
I am informed that there is an effort being made now at Chicago to defeat the election of
of those men by way of bringing an influence to bear on Gov Yates to withhold the Commissions
We that are interested in the Regt. want the Commissions to issue, therefore I would ask you as a friend, to interest yourself with Gov Yates, and endeavour to have him commission O'Meara and Steward, in order that our organization May be perfect, and that officers and men can have that discipline over them that they want
Yours truly
Capt P. Morrah Co B
