Lieut Gov. Francis A. Hoffman.

Springfield

Sir

Permit me to inquire of you whether if Capt. Kovats would come down to Springfield to see you, would have any chance to be promoted to the office of Major in his regiment. I do not urge his claim, you know better the present state of things in that Regiment than I do. The Captain only wants to know if he has any chance and if he has he would go to see you on his way to rejoin his Regiment. Mauff is first & Kovats second in the line of promotion. My opinion is that the officers would prefer the latter. I enclose the certificate from Gen Turchin.

Hoping this will not incomodate you I have the honor to remain

Yours Respectfully

Julian Kune
