His Excellency Gov. Yates
I very much desire the appointment of Surgeon or Assistant Surgeon in Some Reg. battery or post if your Excellency can think proper to allow it before an examination. I have an order to go before the board but it has been about two months since I first applied & yet no time set & I presume I will not get before them for a month yet - having no appointment which shall make my case urgent. If it be improper to give me a place in advance of the examination will you be kind enough to order me forthwith before the board & thus let me get a chance somewhere in the advancing columns of Genl. Buels Command. I am informed by Col. Harmon of 125 that of the incumbents in his Reg is dissatisfied & if I am ready to come on_ But that is some uncertainty compared with an appointment. If It be my misfortune to get no place I think enough of the Pres. proclamation
to start out on my own hook. My age is 43. I have practiced 14 yrs in full service. Can bring with me any reccommendation desired by the service amongst whom are the persons of Judge Davis, Judge Terry _ any of our own citizens & my early classmate J. P. Reynolds of Springfield -- To my knowledge there are many who make application & get their time set for examination who at the same time intend to appear, hence the period set for others may be further removed on their account & have to abide a remote period without knowing that they could as well have had their privalege before --Very Truely
C.A. Hunt MD
I beg leave to suggest if not improper that a reccommendation to a post & an order before the board should no place be open would very much gratify Your Obt Servt _ I herewith enclose a letter form my friend Col. E. McCarty of the Post at Mattoon.
Dr. C.A. Hunt.
