Springfield Oct 20th 1862
Governor Yates
I think it would be well for you to send Loomis down into Kuykindalls district to remain there until the Election and assist Kuykindall & [Liuk?} and such others as K. may direct
Give him a letter to K. and let them operate as K. may think best -- from what I can find out I fear If you dont carry that senatorial district you will loose the Senate prevent the election of a United States Senator
I give Kng Kindall $50,00
to pay for printing tickets &c
give Loomis about as much with such instructions as you may deem best for Your Own interet
If Loomis goes the sooner he does the better -- K is all right on every subject touching your Election I have fully canvassed with him on that subject as well as the Proclamation.
Yours Truly
Butler
I think Jim Loomis, a worthy gentleman, and know he will do anything for you that he can do.- I concur in the above.
