Bradford Stark Co. Ills. Oct 30. 62

Hon. Yates, Gov. of the

state of Ill.

I address you at this time, on account of a Bounty Claim from Government, of $100, belonging to my son Samuel Newell Ford, who was killed on the Battlefield, at Corinth on the third of this present Oct. I received a kind and affecting letter from his Capt. J. C. Townsend, of Co. D. of the 47. Reg. Ills, & also a letter from their Orderly Sergt. Royal Olmsted. The Orderly advised me to write to you immediately, & ask directions, about the Bounty. I also feel that

I must have his body brought home. I feel that I cannot have it left there. He was my youngest child. Hardly 20 years old, born in Chillicothe Ross Co. Ohio Dec. 17 1842. His own Father was Amos Ford, who died in Ironton Lawrence Co. Ohio Feb 22, 1852. My dear son Newell had no earthly Guardian after his fathers death but myself. Two years ago last April I was married to Mr John Evans of this place. My son Newell lived with us until Aug 15, 1861, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army He never came home after Sept. 16, 1861. If you wish further testimony, you can corres-

pond with Capt J. C. Townsend of Co. D. 47 Reg Ills Vol. in Cairo. I think they always send to Cairo for their Mail

Please let me hear with as little delay as possible &

oblige yours truly

Nancy B. Evans

I hear that Capt. Townsend has been recently promoted & is now Major. If it is so I do not know who is Capt. of Co. D. in his place
