His Exc Gov. Yates

Sir I take the liberty of addressing this letter to you because I am aware that you take am interest in the welfare of all of Illinois' soldiers - as her Governor & as a man. I am one of those soldiers [NB?]

William H.H. Pralee of Arcola. Douglas Co. Ill. a private in the 79th Reg of Infantry

When I left home in the service of my Country I did so with the impression that if I was in debt whatever property I owned would be protected by law until my return - Supposing that no one could garnishee any property -

I was in debt to one Clark Gibbs about 9(80. eighty dollars on account - Since my departure he has garnisheed a note in the hands of Lewis Gornel to the amt of $75 & seized some corn in all over $100 dollars - The only means of support of an aged & widowed mother who will be nearly destitute -

If any thing can be done whereby I may be protected until my return - if you can do anything for me you will confer a faver that will be eternally remembered - it you can find time to give me the desired information I will be so happy

Yours with the greatest respect
