Sir

I wish to inform you that I am hear as a paroled prisner of war and I wish to know of you if you cant ishue me a pass and a leaf of absence for eight or 10 days to atend to some buisness. I was taken at the late battle of Corinth Miss. I have been the United Stats army ever sense the 25th day of Aprile in the year 1861. So under the present surcumstances I think you might give me permission to go Home


for a few days. - I would not have been taken a prisner but I was struck with a peace of shell, which I was unable to get a way from the rebles. and thare fore I can not do any good for my contry at this time so thare fore I hope you will favour me with an answer and a leaf of absence as soon as you get this.-
