Jacksonville November 28. 1862
To his Excellency
Gov Yates
Sir
I have just returned from Cairo, where I have been on a visit to my husband, summoned by the news of his severe illness. On my arrival there I found him on a Steam Boat, bound for Memphis, having failed to obtain a furlough to come home. Knowing you to be a kind friend of my husband, and advised by my friends that your influence may obtain permission for him to come home I apply to you for that purpose. I do it with confidence knowing you are a friend of my husband and will readily see the advantages of his being at home for me to nurse. You will confer a favor by informing me immediately if you have any influences, and will use it, for if you have not, I then shall join him at all hazards
Yours Respectfully
Mrs Henry C Coffman
