I understand the State Agent has telegraphed for Contract Surgeons and in view of our poor soldiers suffering in the battle expected every day in Gen Grant's Division i respectfully tender my services I am at present practising as Surgeon here and was Asst. Post Surgeon at Savannah Tene. and in charge of the Hosps there when I had the Honor of seeing you. when you kindly came to see after the Ills. wounded which will be gratefully remembered by all. I was the one that wrote those articles in the St. Louis "Democrat" and "Republican" vindicating you and in reply to an article from Dr. McDougal, Genl. Halleck Head Surgeon
