Sir I have been with my Husband since the 25th of August and he has been sick since the middle of July. he has been at the Hospital at Mound City since the first of Sept and when we came back to his Regiment he could scarcely walk but he was so tired of staying to the Hospital that he told the Doctor he was well and they discharged him from the Hospital. now I ask you for my sake and the for the sake of the life of my Husband on whom depends the support of myself and babe to Intercede for me. Oh if I could only see you and tell you my situation


I know you would help me the doctors here wants him to go back to the Hospital this he refuses to do it has taken all of his earnings to pay the expences since I have been with him. he does not know I am writing to you altho I told him I would do so he said it would be foolishness I tell him I have often saw you and heard you talk in Jacksonville and I new you had a tender heart. I will beseech you and I will continually prey god that you will get him honorabely discharged. I wish you to write to me. Mrs. S. A. Low 9th Reg Ills Cavalry Compay M. Helena Ark

my Husbands name is Joseph. N. Low I feare you have so many calls of this kind that you will over look this I ask you to take 5 minutes to meditate. it is useless to say any more I anxiously await an answer from you.

Says her husband has been ill for a long time past, and is unable to stand the hardships of the Service. Encloses a certificate showing that he has been discharged from the Hopital, as being able for duty, but she says that he is not. Prays that his case may be looked into.

Mound City, Ills., Oct. 17th 1862.

J. N. Low of Co. M 9 Regt., Ill. Cav Vols., is this day discharged from Hospital, cured, and will report forthwith to his company commander for duty.
