Gov Yates Sir
I through much pain and misery endeavor to inform you of my perilous situation. I am in the Hospital & have been. I was crippled while in defense of my Country. I beg of you as a Christian friend one who wishes to do right in all things, & at all times. I request your aid in getting to my own native State. My family is in Quincy Ills. I should like very much to get away from the Hospital for it is a hard place to be. I enlisted to fight in the field not to suffer & live off of the Government & do it no good.
mistake)
The Surgeon's in Charge here say they can do nothing for me, & they make no motion as to discharging me neither will they grant me a furlough. I want an order from you if it is in your power to grant it, to the Surgeon in Charge M.K. Taylor, to send me to the Hospital in Quincy as I think it by far the best to have all the sick soldiers sent to their respective states.
Do this to oblige me.
A private Co G 93d Ills Inft
Geo. W. Lott.
Please let me know soon whether you comply with my request.
Richard Yates Gov Ills.
