Dear Sir

Permit me to state to you that I am A Private of Co. H 88 Regiment of Illinois Vols and I have Been Sick for 3 months in Hospital in Nashville and am geting no better my Disease is in my Back and Spine and they Doctor in Charge says he can do nothing for me he dont give me any medicine and Says I must Recover they Best I can as he cannot Do anything for me and I hope that you Will do something for me to get me a Discharge from they Service as I know I will not Be Ever fit for duty they Doctor in charge is W. Hootton Hospital No. 24. Believing you will Do something for me I remain Yours Truly Obedient Servent

P.S. When I Enlisted I done so with they understanding if I was Taken sick I would be Sent to my own State and care Taken of me untill I recovered
