Gov Yates

Dr Sir

A day or two ago I learned from Mr Atkins that an appointment for 2nd Lieut in Capt Samples Co 101st Reg Ills Vols - had been made - and that some other person besides my brother William had been appointed to that post. I assured Mr Atkins that this could not be the case for the reasons that you without solicitation on my part had assured me that whatever recommendations should be made William should have the Commission and that you had stated to Father that his commission has been sent to him - please write and let me know what is true in regard to the matter as I feel very

anxious in regard to the matter both on account of my brother and - and of my regard for you Yet I have not much doubt of your regard for your promise and assurance

Yours
