Hon Richard Yates

Governor of Illinois,

Dear Sir; The bearer of this letter George O. Evans Esq. of the great house of Evans & Hassel, manufacturers of military goods in the city of Philadelphia, visits your State for the purpose of conferring with you in reference to the furnishing of your troops for the home defence. He is a gentleman of the highest character, in whom you can place the fullest confidence. a man of means, radical loyalty and earnest attachment to our political organization. It would give me great pleasure and I am sure you would find it of advantage to yourself if you would give him an opportunity to supply you at least a portion of the material you may require for your troops.

Yours Very Truly

J.W. Forney
