To his Excelancy Governor
R M Yeates Dear Sir
My son Cornelious Cothern volunteered in August 1862 and he has been sick ever since he has been in the service and I there fore the mother of the child Request you as the Governor of the state that you will direct the colonel of his Regement Mr Boyar that he will send him either on A Discharge or A fur Low I therefore Request and beseach you, the Govrnor of the state and A man high in authority that you will use the inflence you have with the colonel not that I am any waise opposed to my son fighting for the defense of his Country but he
is not abel to be of any servis in the army and by keeping him there he mite contract A Disease that might ultimately determin in Death and by sending him home I could nurse him up and maybe cure him of his disease and thereby Restore him to his company the sooner and be A greatedeal better for him and of Less expence to the Goverment and A Great Deal more satisfaction to me for I could have satisfaction of taking care of him and if Died I would know that he was Berried in Decency. so as the mother of the Boy I earnestly pray and Beg you that you will Direct the colonel of the 116 Reg Co I in care of Capt Fobe that he will send him
home and let me take care of him
