Sir
Edwin Stanton of 99 Ills Vols, is here, on furlough; he desires leave to raise a Cavalry Company from Inftry Volunteers, now in service, if such leave can be had.
He is a brave soldier & has been Sargeant in his Co. He was 3 mos & upwards in Missouri & about 12 mos in 99h Ills; he is a fine horse man, large in stature about 25 years of age. A reply will oblige me I recommend him for such a command.
