O Fallon, August 18th

Governor Yates,

Sir I trust you will pardon the seeming intrusion of this note and take the cause as an excuse

The Loyal Ladies of this vicinity have formed a Union League for the purpose to supply the sick and wounded Soldiers with sanitary stores and we are so situated that we can send large supplies we are anxious to (if possible) to get free transportation from St. Louis to Memphis and [bleiving?] the surest way is to appeal to your Excellency whos first

thought is the comfort of Illinois brave soldiers hoping you will do all in your power to secure free transportation from St Louis to Memphis and answer at your earliest convenience

I remain with much respect
