Hospital No 1 Quincy Ills

Governor

I beg leaf to ask you why it is that we men in Quincy Hospital cant git furlough as othre sick men do in other Hospitals as the most of us has bin away from home frend one and two years and meney ar like my selfe hav be com Deaseas fore life and som are wonded and som ar like my selfe poore men; and sum is like my famley sick and we ar in a few miles off home and we cant go to see them so we think it rather hard after us doing all we Cood fore hour countery and ar still willing to do more if we can and we think that if we Cood

Git to go home a few weeaks that we wood able for duty a [gradle?] sooner then to stay in the hospitals I hav bin in the Hospitals [sant?] of this 4 months and I hav saw men dy and not a few; that if tha had bin sent home in time tha wood hav bin back in the feeald agane in a few weeaks

Governor perhaps I hav all redey send more then will be eney profit to eny off us but I hope you will take som Notis of this matter

As you allways hav looked after the well fare of the Ills boys and we think you will Continyo to do so; thear is a goodeal off complaint from the boys that coms up from the south about this matter as tha thought

That whend tha got in to thear own state tha wood git to go hom and so on;

With thos few schattring remarks I will close remaing your as a faithfull soldier
