Governor,
I take the liberty of addressing you in behalf of the Medical Corps of the Army. Although personally a stranger to you I am not altogether officially unknown to you.
It is reported that the present Surgeon General Dr Hammond is to be Superceded
Dr Wood is the next in rank and the legitimate successor to the position. You have been kind enough to express your gratification to me for the manner in which the present Asst Surgeon General Dr. Wood has provided for the care and
comfort of the Soldiers from your State serving in the Armies in the West.
May I ask you to express the same to Mr. Stanton, with the recommendation that Dr. Wood, in the position of Surgeon General, may have an opportunity as Chief of the Medical Department to extend the benefits of his great experience and long service to the army generally
