To his Excellency
Hon Richard Yates
The bearer of this Mr John A Hughes is a Respectable Citizen of our County, he has a Son in the army ,who is now in the Hospital at Memphis, his object in visiting you at present is to obtain a pass to visit his Son and endeavour to have him removed to a hospital in this State or to return home until his health is returned, with privilege of Reporting to Quincy. Any assistance you can afford Mr Hughes will be greatfully Rcd.
