Hon Richard Yates

Dear Sir

It having been proposed by the Union citizens of this place and vicinity to hold a mass meeting here sometime in the fore part of October and the undersigned having been appointed a committee to correspond with speakers we write to ask if you could favor us with a speech on the occasion and if so at what time it would be most convenient for you to come. We

need a demonstration here to stir up anew the patriotism of our citizens and drive the spirit of Copperheadism from our midst and know of no one who can do that as well as our Govenor.

Please answer us soon as convenient and come if possible

Yours Truly

W. W. Peirce
