Dear Governoer R. Yeats!

I take the liberty, and sent this few lines to You, in distress and missery, where I and my Lady am in, for some time past, and at present still yet. Dear Govennoer I pray you for God almithy sake, save tow lives, my Ladys and my owen, then both of us, being to much tremblet on, by this Capt T.F. Vaughn commanding this Battery. First he inlisted me unter false predeance, and not being mustert in at all, I cant recive my Pay as where I am inlistet fare as Chif Bugler only as a Private, beaside extra pay, he ruint my Ladys Chracter and main, he kept the ration from my Lady, and treatet us both like a [brath?], farther more he disstroit our happy life, he torre Msr Traunig away from me in Memphis like a breath, her still I am sick, near to die, only for this Capt


Haevenly Govennoer is then no help? is it not in Your power to take me out of this Battery and to save both our lifes, then if I have to stay one month longer in this Battery, my life will be to end, then stant my Lady allone and lost in the World without suport or help, or she has to beg from house to house, I have not heard of her since I left Memphis, I sooner die in the lowest [toungen?] on eart before I stay unter such a Capt, he destroit tow happy lifes, and ruiend us both our piece and happniss, I get to old to stant the Campain any longer, I am now 46 years and 18 years in the U.S. service, and verry sickly besaide, therefore Governoer I pray you again for God sake help us, help me out of the Battery out of distress and misery, I hope not that such a


Treatment will be the thank for the service who have [illegible] on the Battelfield of Shilo, to our poor woundet Commrads, my lady as well as myself, [&?] now your Hon. I hope you will hear, my prayer and save tow happy lifes from this graed distress, and take me out of this Battery, in the most sinsirly hope, to hear soon from you again
