In Compliance to Order No (91) of ware department of date June 25th 1863 alowing soaldiers to reinlist in the Vetran Volunteer Survice and Especialy those who enlisted for the turm of three Years and has now Surved two Years of the three This is to State to you that myself and Captian John P. Files of the 56th Regt Ills vols Co H has now got two full Companys made up for the Vetran Volunteer Cavalry and we ask your honor to Grant us leave to raise two other companys and admit us into the United States Survice as an Independant Battaliion of Illinois Vetran Cavalry for the
Turm of three years or during the ware
Those two companys was made up some two months ago and was tendered to Liet Colonel Hunter of the 32nd Regt Illinois, but as we have not heard from him Since we have thought to make an Indipendente Battalion all from this Brigade if we can get a permit to do so. We can make up a Battalion in two or three days at this time of the best men now in the United States Army and sutch a corps is vary mutch needed heare at this time. Give us a purmit if you can, and instruct us how to proceade with it and we will do worke.

It appears Segt McGee wishes to raise an independent Battalion of Veteran Cavalry & asks authority so to do. These men being still in the service can enlist as veterans provided they have less than one year to serve, but to leave their present Companies to organize an independent Battalion, will require special authority from the War Department.
