Hon Richard Yates

Governor of Ill.

Dear Sir:

I noticed today a petition in Circulation addressed to your excellency, asking the appointment of a Mr. Hunt. A Notary Public for Mound City. Said Hunt is a young "Copperhead" from Kentucky, not three months in the State. His father, now here, was some months in Fort Lafayette, in consequence of his demonstrations of disloyalty, while a resident of Maysville, Ky.

Our city, polled a Union vote of 3 to 1 against the Copperheads at the recent election, and we don't want any more Copperheads appointed to office in this vicinity

I am very truly yours

J. Reece Emrie

Prst. Mound City N.L.W.
