To His Excellency Gov Yates
Dear Sir
My friend Judge Wm Chumasen desires to visit Memphis and would be glad to get a letter from you which would keep him in passing from point to point occupied by our troops. Mr C. is a true man all earnest republican and in every respect entirely trust worthy he has practised law for 25 years in this Co and is one of our most respected & influential citizens. I hope you will find it consistent with the public service to give him such a letter as he wants
