Gov. Yates

Springfield Ill.

Dr Sir I have a son, a mere youth who left home contrary to my wishes now going on [2?] years since. He is now a prisoner at Camp Douglass in your State. He attached himself to the 10 Ky Regt & was with Genl Morgan West of the Ohio when captured I think at Buffington in July last. I saw him in Camp D in Sept He says his time was out in July last and he wishes to return Home to go to School. Can I obtain his release on such terms as I can obtain of the Comdt of this post If so please inform me so that I can comply for him Some influential Gentlemen in Chicago made application at my instance to the War Department for his release but an applications there is like dropping a pebble in the Ocean & waiting for it to come up again. Please interest yourself in my Boys behalf He will not go again into the Service as he has promised me for which I will give ample Bond.

Very Respy

S.G. Williams.

He is of 10 Ky. Co. B -- Morgans Division & [illegible] in Witnesses by name
