International Hotel New York, Dec. 7, 1863 Gov. Yates Dear Sir I have arranged for the course of lectures which I have spoken of to you. The course will be commenced on next Saturday evening, Dec. 12. Several prominent speakers have consented to speak on that evening. It occurred to my mind today that it might pos-sibly be more convenient to you to be present and speak at the open-ing of the course, than at the close. If so please allow me to announce you

as one of the speakers for Saturday evening. The speaches will be such as are usually made at war meetings. I hope enthusiasm will be en-kindled by them - enlistments encouraged and a vigorous prosecution of the war urged by all the speakers. 50 per cent of the proceeds of these lectures will go to the Patriotic Fund for orphans of soldiers the remainder to the National Literary Asso- ciation, for the purpose of increacing the cir-culation of the National Banner, and otherwise promoting the interests of the Association, of which I hope you

will sometime become a member. Hoping to receive from you a favorable reply to my request, I am Very Respectfully by Delphine P. Baker Gov. Richard Yates.d P.S. I hope Mrs Yates is well. Please give my kind remem-berances to her. D.P.B.
