Governer Yates.

Dear Sir:

I write you these few lines to let you know that I am a widow & that my son "Daniel H. Mace" was sworn into the 3d Regt of [illegible] in Comp. B H.A. Rice his Capt. he was but 17 when he enlisted. I his mother forbade them taking him. he has served since the 4th of last March & has recieved no pay. his Father was dying. the doctor that attended him wrote the Capt the case jest as it was & he could not get no furlough so he came without. his Father died before he arrived. I persuaded him to go back. when returning to his Company he was arrested by order of one "Thomas Clayton" & thrown into "Schofield Prison." he has never been Mustered, never signed the pay rolls, has

fought for nothing & now is thrown into Prison for his pay. now is it right. I am a widow & need his help. he is all the Son I have got that can help me any. "M. P. Mace" was his uncle. you were well acquainted with him. God has taken my husband & man has taken my Son. now I want you to help me and God will reward you for it. be a friend to the "Widowed Mother" for I feel this is more than I can bear!

Please be so kind as to answer this soon as possible.

Respectfully Yours.

Lucia M. Mace
