Yr dispatch this PM to Judge Waite came duly to hand & himself Mr Crawford & Mr Harrington have concluded to go down on first train & I first thought I wd accompany them but afterwards recd a dispatch from the East stating that a party left there this day to meet me on very important business & that I must be at home on Wednesday eveg On that account I must forgo the opportunity I might have of using what little influence I might have for you in the contest that I have been feeling more & more interested in Every day, as the time draws near, but hoping our men can
accomplish all that cod be done by any of us from this locality You have true & strong friends here among the people let their representatives act as they may But I shall hope for the best & send this [illegible] Mr Crawford
