O H Miner Esq
Dr Sir
Permit me to trouble you again. I have just made arrangements to go south to rent a plantation partly on account of my health which is not good and partly because I am induced to believe there is money in the operation and it has occurred to me that a recommendation as to Loyalty Honesty and other qualifications might be of service to me from the Gov or other state officials, and not having time to visit Springfield I take the liberty to trouble you to obtain for me such [illegible] as you may think I need or are worthy of. I would further say that I am personally acquainted
with Mr Field the President of the Commission for renting abandoned plantations, and last year he was very anxious to have me join him, down there and take a plantation but my circumstances were such then that I could not do so, and I see that new men are now appointed by the Treasury Department which may invoke the removal of the present Commission and it is to provide for this emergency that I ask for recommendations from our State officials
If you feel disposed to render me any assistance in this direction it will be duly appreciated by Yours Fraternally
