Office of Auditor of State.
Topeka, Jany 19th 1864.
His Excellency
Richard Yates
Governor of Illinois
Dear Sir
On the Part of the state of Kansas, I am desirous to ascertain whether or not this state can make arangements with you for the care and keeping in your verry valuable Insane Asylum the Insane of our state. (five or Six in number)
Our State is as yet only thinly Settled and that unfortunate class of our inhabitants the Insane are but few. It will not justify us in building at Present an asylum for them Provided we can get them cared for elsewhare
having once resided in your state for five or six years (at Jacksonville) and knowing something of your well regulated institutions I have thus on the Part of the state been induced to make this aplication
If it is Posable for you to receive into your asylum our Insane you will communicate to Me the same setting forth the terms &c &c.
An early answer will be duly appreciated
I My Dear sir your
Most obediant servant
Asa Hairgrove
