Dr Sir
I should be very much grattified with the appointment of Paymaster in the Regular Service in place of the one I now hold, (Additional one) in the Volunteer servic, As it would give me addition Rank and privalidges that I now cannot get. And as I believe that a recommendation from you to the President would obtain it for me, I should feel under additional obligation to you if you should see fit to do me this favor I do not wish to place myself under
to Senator Trumbu or Gen Farnsworth - for the honor, as they might feel that they had claims, on me or my friends
Wishing you health & prosperity I remain your sincere friend & obt Servt
J. H. Mayborne
P.S. If you have the slightest [delicacy?] about doing me this favor, for any reason do not move in the matter at all.
