Josiah Downen Jr a private of Co A. 72d Reg Ills. Vol. who has been a good soldier since the organization of said Regt. desires a position as first or second Lieut. in a colored Regiment. We beleave him to be worthy of such a position, and if he passes the requisite Examination we hope you Excellency will grant him a commission
