Decr. 25th - 1880,

My darling Edwina

I have just read over your last to me. it was the 19th of Novr. it does seem so long ago---but I know there is another on the way.

I have had 2 letters from your Papa since then his last was the 6th of Decr.

I am so delighted to hear from you. The good news of his success. Keeps up my Spirits & I try to pass the time as Cheerful as I can.

but it is dull enough. Joe will fret because he can get nothing to employ him. he reads a good deal---visits the Theatre, of nights & dont go out much in the day. Rosalie Still Coughs yet she takes a doctors prescription. I dont think it does her any good. What worries me most is her losing flesh. she looks pale & thin---but dont complain. She takes plenty of excersise. I hope she may mend in the Spring, but the Bronchitis when it gets chronic is not to be cured. in the House we have our Flat---the Front room, the Parlour is on the Street. the Bedrooms 3 in number run back to the

dining Room, & the Kitchen in the basement. back of the House. the front basement is Occuopied by the Janitor & his wife---who last week lost a young Child---that had laid ill for 3 weeks.

The Lodgers in the Rooms above ours, I have never seen. they pass in and out with a Key. so we might as well have the House to ourselves ---as regards Company. They are Called French Flats---and they are very cold---but it is so everywhere---unless where the Houses are heated by Furnace or Steam.

Marie paid us a flying visit last Sunday. I never Can prevail on her to Stay but a few minutes. she came in a Carriage, & could not keep the driver waiting. its more than a Month since she has played. She went to Philadelphia & stayed a few days, two weeks ago. she told Joe something about her money---but it was not satisfactory I think & I could not understand it, Uncle Junius has not returned yet. Aggy is sick & not Acting, its being Snowing for 2 days & is laying very deep in the roads. there is Skating in the Park---so some young people are delighted. Bless you darling with much love---& wishes for a happy New Year to you all.

ever your loving Grandma M A Booth
