Hon. Richard Yates

Dear Sir: Your kind and highly complimentary letter I have just received through our mutual friend Driscoll, and take this early opportunity to return to you the humble thanks of a sincere heart.

Be assured, Dear Sir, that it shall be one of the objects of my life to endeavor to merit your confidence and esteem.

My prayer is that you may have Devine guidance to direct you in the discharge

of the responsible duties which devolve upon you in the high and honorable position to which you have been called by a free and patriotic people.

Your humble &

Obt. Servant
