I take my pen in hand to ask you a few questions which I sincerely hope will be answered by you though as it comes from a mere woman prehaps will not be looked upon as worthy of an answer though an answer would be received probbly with more joy and more thanks to you than it would ware it some high oficer ot great Lord first I will tell you why I write this my husband is private in the


96 Illinois Regt Company B he has been sick ever since the Regt left Rockford has not ben able to do duty since then he has went to the regt several times and as often has been sent to the hospital he is now at Louisvill Ky and has tried to get his discharge but they wont give him one he ses he is sadisfide he can never do the Government any good thare and is only expens and he would like to come home and why do they keep him thare they have tried him almost six months to the expence of the Government and why not let him go why is he kept thare till death shall seal his fate and give him his final discharge another question I would ask are the 96 Ill Vol nine months men


were they enlisted under the last call for 9 months men I thought they ware but did not know I hope they are for if they are I shall hope once to see my husband once more but if they are for 3 years I shall dispair of ever seeing him again it is to this end I write to find out if they are 9 months men and if you can and will in any way help my husband in geting his discharge as he is uterly useless to the army if he was not I would not ask for him nor call him back when he was well and harty I bade him go and fight for his country which he was very anxious to do he has tried it and finds he can do no good and he deeply regrets he he cannot be able to meet the


foe with the rest of the regt if you can give him any aid and assistance I hope and pray you will and god will bless you for it and you never will fail to have the prayers of your humble Servant Mrs E. Fisher. Hainesville Lake Co Ill
