Gov Yates
Sir you will doubtless be somewhat surprised at receiving a letter from a woman of little fame, but you will not wonder: if you will be so kind as to read this poor scrap of paper. I want to speak in regard to my Dear Husband who is at Vicksburg sick but remember I am not going to ask for a discharge, he has been sick ever since the 4 of Dec he has something like consumption the Doctors there cant do him any good as he has to lie on the cold wet ground all the time now for my sake wont you please have him sent to the Hospittle at Memphis Tenn where he could get some little medical attention his name Albert J Watson he is in the 116 Regt Co D under Capt Joseph Lingle Ills Vol
I will be very glad if you will do something for him have him sent to the hospittle or home where he can get help & soon be able to go back to his Regt I think you are very kind to our Soldiers from what I see in the news paper this is why I take the liberty to write to you now wont you please for my sake have my poor Husband sent home or too the Hospittle at Memphis till he recruit up for he cant live long where he is you can immagine how anxious about him I feel hoping you will answer this & tell me whether you will do anything for him or not I will close
Yours with respect
Mary J Watson
