To his Excellency Richard Yates Govenor of Illinois
Dear Sir
Allow me to call your attention to the matter of pay for our regiments we have not been paid since we entered the Service only one months advance at the time of Muster to the privates. The Officers have recd not a red and the families of both officers, and men are suffering greatly for want of the means to purchase the common articles of household use you will oblidge this Reg greatly if you will call the attention of the pay department to the fact of our being thus long (7 months) without pay.
Yours Most Respectfully
Capt John Wadleigh Senior Officer Commanding 104th Ill.
