Richard Yates,

Governor &c.

Sir;

I have been in the United States service for twenty months, and was then honerably discharged from the same; and am now asking a favor at your hands: It is that I may be appointed as commissary in one of those colored regt.

I can furnish recommendations from all of the 15th Ills Vol. Reg. officers & many others who are commissaries Viz: Capt J. M Lucas. H. M. Sumner. &c.
